Stranded assets, orphan portfolios, and founder transitions

JHG is an active buyer, not just an advisor. If you are a corporate development team simplifying a portfolio, or a founder considering a transition, let's talk directly, no intermediaries, no obligation.

What we work on

Three ways we engage

Each path starts with a direct conversation. No banker fees at the front end, no obligation.

  • Stranded post-M&A recoveryPrimary — acquiring product lines that underperform inside a larger strategic after acquisition, not because of the technology, but because of the organization around it
  • PE orphan & carve-out recoveryPrimary — subscale assets that no longer fit a fund's thesis or minimum deal size
  • Founder exitsOpportunistic — strategic sale or acquisition of a founder-owned company with no succession plan

Why talk to us first

We have been the operator on both sides of a deal: the founder who sold, and the executive who ran the portfolio afterward. We understand what the transition actually looks like from inside the business, not just from a diligence checklist.

How it starts

A direct, confidential conversation. No LOI required upfront. Two operators talking about whether there is a fit before anything goes to a process.

Johnson Holdings Group is a private holding company focused on acquiring, integrating, and operating subscale IoT, RTLS, and healthcare technology businesses.
Category 1 — Stranded & orphan assets
  • IoT, RTLS, or healthcare technology
  • Acquired 18–36 months ago, flat or declining against the parent's core business
  • Technology and customer base still sound; underperformance is organizational, not product
  • Thin or absent joint go-to-market with the parent
Category 2 — Founder-owned businesses
  • IoT, RTLS, or healthcare technology
  • $2M–$15M ARR, founder-led, 15+ years built
  • No succession plan in place

03 / Our Approach

Why Johnsons Holdings Group

01

Results with Integrity

We prove that business success and ethical practices can coexist and reinforce each other. Every investment and engagement is held to both a financial and a values standard — not as a constraint, but as a competitive advantage.

02

Operator Credibility

Our leadership has built and sold a technology platform, run a post-acquisition product portfolio inside a global enterprise, led M&A strategy, and managed manufacturing operations on the ground in Shenzhen and Guangdong. We have been inside the businesses we invest in — not just advised on them from the outside.

03

Each Opportunity Is Unique

We do not apply a template. Every investment and engagement begins with a diagnostic — understanding the team, the market, the technology, and the specific constraints before any recommendation is made. Generic advice costs more than it saves.

04

Long-Term Vision

We are not focused on short-term extraction. Our strategies are designed for long-term viability, sustainable growth, and compounding value — for the businesses we operate, the founders we partner with, and the customers they serve.

04 / Leadership

Built by someone who has done it, not just advised on it

Patents: Thermal Imaging Room-Level RTLS  ·  BLE-Based Location Determination

"I've spent the last decade on both sides of the founder journey."

Matthew A. Johnson co-founded Bluvision, a BLE and RTLS micro-location platform, and led it through acquisition by HID Global in 2016. He then ran HID's IoT product portfolio as VP of Product — including M&A strategy behind HID's acquisition of GuardRFID in 2023. He set up and managed hardware manufacturing operations in Shenzhen and Guangdong for both Bluvision and HID.

Earlier, he grew a new client account from $300K to $12M in its first year at Razorfish, led the firm's $40M global technology account with a team of 100+, and founded and built the Mobile Solutions Group at Vibes Media into a full-service mobile agency serving the NFL, PGA, Verizon, and Home Depot.
